But I am even less of a fan of being FAT. So, like the idea or not, I had to get myself on a diet. There is an old saying that "you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink." Well, as far as food was concerned I was completely the opposite. If a horse was dumb enough to lead me to a trough I would have eaten the entire contents of the trough and then eaten the horse before searching for the rest of the herd. "Rubbish, what an exaggeration!" I can hear you say. No! I said I'd go SEARCHING for the rest of the herd. I didn't say I would eat them all. At the same time, I would definitely have saved one or two of the smaller horses for a snack later in the day.
Yes! I had a food problem. I would go as far as to say it was one of those "love-hate relationships" … I hated loving it!
But seriously, so far as diets go, be it the cabbage soup diet, "Calorie 500", " 12000" or any other diet you care to mention, losing weight is only half the battle. Keeping it off is an entirely different ball game.
So what's my problem with losing weight with the "Calorie 1000" diet? Well that's just it, "Calorie 1000" is strictly a weight LOSS diet. It is not a diet that gets you accustomed to staying slim or trains you to "keep it off".
It's easy enough to turn your average diet into a "Calorie 1000" plan. It doesn't even require much calorie-counting. (I hate calorie-counting.) Eat five small meals per day. Make sure all your dairy products are zero-fat. In fact, cut out all fats, including nuts and avocados, except one tablespoon of olive oil per day. No sugar at all. As many vegetables as you like … yawn …
Does that sound boringly familiar?
Yes! The "Calorie 1000" plan is a successful DIET plan and it is far less dramatic and much more "humane" than the Calorie 500 diet. I have seen many people successfully lose weight on it, but you'd never guess what happened to most of them!
It's sad but true … in fact it's a bloody travesty.
They all ain't bein' slim no more.
Here is an interesting fact. The harsher the diet - the faster the weight loss - the more likely you are to put it all back on. And the slower the weight loss, the greater the chances of keeping it off.
